Inhabitants is a spatialised sound installation that features an ensemble of mechatronic sound objects inspired by the unique garden ecosystem of The Heart at Marina One. The work conceptualises the site as a novel space and imagines its sonic inhabitants as mechatronic sound creators. Four bespoke sound-producing mechanisms are custom designed to highlight properties of the space while working together as a sonic ecosystem, mimicking the complex natural patterns found in nature. A range of mechatronic materials are employed to explore the imagined sonic ecosystem of The Heart, with the dichotomies of organic/inorganic, natural/artificial, and controlled/emergent acting as core artistic themes.

transient
transient is a human-mecha performance featuring three human performers with mechatronic sound machines (MSMs). The MSMs in this performance and their sonic manifestations draw upon the concept of ensemble and instrumentality in their development. The performance explores the concept of sonic inhabitants in a performance with human intervention, providing an analogy of co-existence and co-creation with a vision of our mechanical futures. The human performers enact musical intentions with and to their mecha-counterpart, blurring the lines between control and agency, as well as emergence and intention, to create a sonic landscape that re-imagines our everyday lives when creative machines become more prevalent and ubiquitous.
